Class 6 Newsletter Spring Term 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy New Year to you all!

I hope you all had an enjoyable festive break and it’s great to see the children making such a positive start to the year.

I’m sure you’re already aware, but our Class Topic this term is ‘Our Wonderful World’. We will be learning lots about where we live in Wotton, the environment and we will also compare Wotton with another country. We will be exploring some Physical (natural) and human (human made) features, where we will find similarities and differences between different countries and regions. In Topic we will also be learning about how we can protect and help our planet. Our Class text will link to the environment and what different places may look like. We will be doing lots of our Literacy study around this books. More detailed information about our Class Topic and planning details are available on the school website at:

Many children are coming to school with coats and jumpers that are un-named. Please can you ensure that your child has their name in all items of school uniform, particularly school jumpers, as they can easily be misplaced, but with a name inside, they usually find their way back to their owners. Also make sure PE kit is clearly named.

This term, teachers will be teaching PE alongside coaches from Atlas Sports. Our PE slot is on a Monday with Atlas Sports and we will have an additional PE lesson on a Thursday afternoon. Please can you ensure your child has the correct PE kit in school at all times. They require a ‘House’ coloured T-Shirt, a pair of blue/black shorts and/or jogging bottoms and a pair of daps/trainers that fit them properly. As we’re doing Tag Rugby with Atlas Sport, trainers will be more suitable and a spare pair of socks for when the grass is wet. They may also want to bring extra clothing such as sweaters or jogging bottoms as the weather gets cooler.

Fit 4 15

We will be continuing our Fit 4 15 running sessions each week day, apart from days when we have PE, so having a suitable pair of daps/trainers in school at ALL times is important.

Homework this term is via a set of SATS revision guides. Children have a revision book and question book for maths, reading and SPAG (6 books in total). A couple of pages from each book is set on a Friday, and due in the following Friday.

SATS Meeting

There will be a SATS meeting on Tuesday 25th February at 5:30pm to discuss the SATS week and to show you a website that we use to help with revision and practise.

Parent Helpers

We are always looking for parent helpers at school to help, especially with readers. If you’re able to help, then please let myself or another member of staff know.

As from this term, I will be teaching Wednesday to Friday in the class. Mrs B will cover on Monday and Tuesday. Mrs Fisher is the year 6 TA for 1.5 days per week.

I look forward to another exciting term with your children. If you have anything that you need to talk about, then feel free to pop in for a chat.

Yours Sincerely

Abel Roche
